The Fire Department

The South Lyon Fire Department (SLFD) is located in the southwest corner of Oakland County. The Department provides firefighting, emergency medical, hazardous material mitigation, extrication, water rescue, and other technical rescue services to the 12,000 residents of South Lyon. Annually, the Department responds to over 1,200 emergency incidents. The city is protected by two Engines, one Ladder, and a Rescue. The Fire Department maintains an ISO Class 3 rating.

SLFD is a member of the Mutual Aid Box Alarm Association (MABAS) 3201.  SLFD maintains reciprocal automatic mutual aid agreements with the Lyon Township Fire Department (Oakland County) and Green Oak Township Fire Department (Livingston County).

SLFD has a full-time fire chief who works business hours, Monday through Friday.  There are 27 part-time and paid-on-call firefighters/EMT’s.  SLFD generally has 3 to 5 high school aged fire cadets on staff.

The fire station is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The daily shift staffing is supplemented with paid-on-call firefighter/EMT's responding to major incidents and backfilling the station on minor incidents.
